Bitfinex și Tether au căzut la o înțelegere cu procurorul general al New York-ului, în urma acuzațiilor de activități ilegale cu crypto. Cele două companii vor plăti o amendă de 18.5 milioane de dolari.
„Bitfinex and Tether recklessly and unlawfully covered-up massive financial losses to keep their scheme going and protect their bottom lines. Tether’s claims that its virtual currency was fully backed by U.S. dollars at all times was a lie. These companies obscured the true risk investors faced and were operated by unlicensed and unregulated individuals and entities dealing in the darkest corners of the financial system”, se arată în declarația emisă de Letitia James, procurorul general al New York-ului.
Cele două platforme de trading vor înceta operațiunile pe teritoriul New York-ului și sunt obligate să fie transparente cu rezervele pe care le au. Mai mult, Tether e obligată să dezvăluie public ce assets USDT deține.
Drept răspuns, Bitfinex și Tether au declarat că au acceptat înțelegerea pentru a vedea situația rezolvată, însă nu recunosc acuzele aduse. Totodată, au mulțumit consumatorilor loiali.
